Katelyn Skye Bennett

Skye works full time in workforce development at a nonprofit, manages Intersected Project with her best friend Layla, and serves as Marketing Co-chair for the World Refugee Day Chicago Committee. Passionate about working with refugees, she is pursuing a Master’s in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies at DePaul University. In all her work, she hopes to further space for belonging.

Skye holds a B.A. in Sociology and a Journalism Certificate from Wheaton College, IL. She served as News Editor for the Wheaton Record, worked for the Denver VOICE, edited for the former Rhythm Reload Magazine, and has been published by Today’s Christian Woman.

MaLaysia Mitchell

Marketing Manager and Co-Founder

MaLaysia Mitchell

Layla is a full-time Master’s in Public Health candidate at Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is the co-founder of Intersected Project with Skye and is passionate about social justice and racial equity advocacy.

Within her professional career, she has served as a consultant in medical management and as an administrative intern for a community clinic on the Westside of Chicago. She hopes to further her career by working in underserviced communities through healthcare policy and management.

Layla graduated from Wheaton College, IL, with a B.A. in Anthropology, concentrating in science, Latin American studies, African studies and Theology.
